Meet Muriel Lewis

Muriel Thelma Lewis was the fourth child of parents Christina Adams and Judson Wharton. As a child, she was enthusiastic about reading and writing and that passion for learning would go on to inspire generations of loved ones in Guyana, United States and the United Kingdom.

Muriel Lewis was a homemaker who married Desmond Lewis, a local businessman and raised nine children as a homemaker.  She always stressed the importance of education and never failed to display her compassion for everyone she encountered. Many times, Muriel’s house was full of other children from the neighborhood and she would ensure everyone had a meal – often neglecting herself.  She continued to be welcoming and accommodating but always advocated for all the children to aim higher. Though Muriel only had basic education through Elementary School, she realized early the value of a sound education and the opportunities that it would provide.

The hope of this foundation is to embody Muriel’s zeal to encourage children and to provide them opportunities to further their education.
